Massive new year’s clean up! Exhausting but cleansing for the soul! Why do I share this? To let off pain. We each have received or handed out words verbally but worse yet, written, that can hurt. The scale, each of us only really knows the real extent. But as I go through the paper matter that I have saved from my own crazy lifetime as well as those horrors passed down to me from the past, (that I had put away for safe keeping), I realize how important it is to get rid of these negative things, try to lighten one’s burden and think about one’s words. Whether actions in words, in form of letters or actions on notarized documents, they survive each of us! They can hurt! They can destroy! I have decided to be the filter of these bad memories. Read through and destroy. And it hurts! Thanks for the crap! But, they stop with me so the next generation doesn’t have to deal with the feelings I am having at this time. I have filled my second paper garbage container! When I am finally through, I, the dirty filter of this all, will definitely need heavy cleansing! From Trash to Treasure The world faces a garbage dilemma. Trash threatens to take over, yet we continue to consume. “I am one of millions producing trash daily,” says jeweler and Pearl River artist-in-residence Suzette Gabriel-Schoebitz. “I do not want to leave my grandchildren such a polluted world.” Instead of letting trash go to “waste,” Suzette says, much of it can be repaired, reused, or recycled. Such is philosophy behind this collection. It began with pieces her clients no longer wanted. Rather than throw them out, Suzette supplemented them with parts she found in flea markets, second-hand stores, and trading posts — turning others’ trash into renewed treasure. This exhibition and performance, Suzette has dubbed ‘trash mob’, is created from a year of her own collected trash made into wearable art. A statement and happening with NYU dancers performing during rush hour on Broadway, an exclamation about the situation of garbage in our world today.

Anima Blu

‚Anima Blu’, or Blue Soul, was a collaboration performance in the spacious Reithalle in Munich between the stylist, Elena Berton, the photography artist, Marco, the choreographer Rafaele Giovanola, and myself. The performance ‚happening’ evolved from Marco’s photo collection, ‚Anima Blu’ depicting the soul as the color blue. We expressed this idea three dimensionally through simple wooden objects of construction and blue paint. Using dancers from the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich moving intertwined with models the performance presented the fashion from Elena’s collection and my jewelry creations from ‚One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure’.
